Biography
Dr. Hoopes received his M.D. degree from Duke University School of Medicine, where he also completed his general surgery residency. Dr. Hoopes completed his cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Michigan before returning to Duke for fellowship training in cardiopulmonary transplantation. His clinical interests include cardiopulmonary transplantation and surgical approaches to end stage heart and lung disease. In addition, he holds a graduate degree in anthropology and is actively developing research in the molecular genetics of infectious disease as it relates to thoracic transplantation. Dr. Hoopes was recruited to UCSF in 2002 and is currently the Director of Cardiopulmonary Transplantation.
Dr. Hoopes is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Chest Physicians and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Western Thoracic Surgical Association, and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.
